Chargers Pull Away From JSC, Earn 61-42 Win

Senior Rob Key scored 11 points and grabbed nine boards in the Badgers 61-42 loss to Colby-Sawyer in the opening round of the 14th Annual Ed Hockebury Classic hosted Norwich University

 

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Colby-Sawyer College pulled away from Johnson State College late in the second half to earn a 61-42 win in the first round of the 14th Annual Ed Hockenbury Classic hosted by Norwich University.  Norwich defeated the University of Maine-Augusta in the other opening round match up by the count of 90-54.

 

Johnson (1-4, 0-0 North Atlantic Conference) ran out to a 20-15 lead with following a lay up by freshman Billy Boyd (Hardwick, Vt./Hazen) with 8:42 remaining in the first half.  Colby-Sawyer (3-2, 0-0 The Commonwealth Coast) would close out the half on a 17-5 run though behind 12 points from freshman John Roberts (Casco, Maine/Falmouth) over the first 20 minutes and take 32-25 lead into the break.

 

JSC would come out of the half ready to make it a game rattling off the first seven points of the stanza to tie the game at 32 getting five points from senior Rob Key (New Britain, Conn./New Britain) during the surge.

 

Back-to-back 3-point field goals from junior Will Bardaglio (Wayne, Maine/Maranacook) would give the Chargers the lead for good though as the Badgers would not get closer than six points the rest of the way.

 

Key would finish with team-high's of 11 points and nine rebounds for Johnson while Boyd, senior Ian Passino (Peru, N.Y./Peru), and freshman Bryan Hickey (Barre, Vt./Spaulding) would add eight points apiece.

 

Bardarglio's 16 points would pace Colby-Sawyer while Roberts would finish with 14 points and freshman Robbie Burke (Cheshire, Mass./Hoosac Valley) would chip in with 10.

 

Johnson moves on to play Maine-Augusta in the consolation game of the tournament at 1:00 pm on Sunday while the Chargers will play Norwich in the tournament championship at 3:00 pm.
