Thomas Rallies Past Johnson 73-62

JOHNSON, Vt. (January 22, 2011) -  Thomas College overcame a 38-31 halftime deficit by canning 7-of-15 3-point field goals after going 2-for-12 in the first half as the Terriers earned a 73-62 North Atlantic Conference men's basketball victory on Saturday in Carter Gym.  Thomas improves to 7-7 overall, 3-2 NAC while Johnson drops to 3-10 overall, 0-4 NAC.

 

A 52% field goal shooting effort sparked Johnson in the first half as sophomore point guard Andy Bousono (Philadelphia, Penn./Nueva Esperanza) scored all 11 of his points to give Johnson the seven-point halftime lead.

 

The Terriers would claw back out of the break going on a 12-2 run out of the locker room capped by a 3-pointer by freshman Franklin Salvador (Somerville, Mass./Somerville) to gain a 43-40 lead.  Thomas would take the lead for good with 13:29 left to play when sophomore Jarrad DeVaughn (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) knocked down a 3-pointer to make the score 48-45.

 

Thomas was led by freshman Stanley Greene Jr. (Dorchester, Mass./East Boston) and his game-high 20 points on 6-for-11 shooting.  Senior guard Andrew Duncanson (Portland, Maine/Portland) tossed in 19 points and a snatched a team-best nine rebounds while Salvador supplied 11 points and DeVaughn 10.

 

Johnson was led by senior guard Ian Passino (Peru, N.Y./Peru) who drilled 4-of-6 3-point field goals on his way to 18 points.  Classmate Rob Key (New Britain, Conn./New Britain) went for 13 points and eight rebounds, and junior Alen Turan (Essex, Vt./Essex) produced nine points, seven rebounds, and four assists.  Bousono would add five steals and four assists to his 11 points.

 

Johnson will now travel to play at Lyndon State College on Tuesday night at 7:30 pm while Thomas returns to Maine for a tilt at the University of Maine-Farmington on Wednesday night at 7:30 pm.
