The Badgers Men's Basketball team battled through two thrilling overtime periods before falling 108-101 to Vermont State Randolph on Saturday night in the first day of the 2025 VTSU Classic. The game marks the regular season opener for the Badgers.
SUMMARY
Vermont State University Johnson and Randolph lived up to the VTSU Classic tournament name, delivering an instant classic in a high-scoring, double-overtime matchup. The Badgers led for much of regulation, including a dominant 26-6 start and a 42-37 halftime lead.
Randolph rallied in the second half, eventually taking a late lead. With seconds remaining in regulation, Marty Askenazi hit a game-tying three-pointer to send the game into overtime at 80 apiece.
In the first overtime, Johnson surged ahead 89-84, before Randolph responded with a rally of their own, tying the game again at 90-90. The second and final overtime saw the Badgers fall behind early, and despite late buckets from Drew Phillips and Askenazi, Randolph sealed the win at 108-101.
