JSC Men Play to 0-0 Tie with ESF
Freshman keeper Ryan Belen made seven saves to preserve a 0-0 tie with visiting SUNY-ESF on Sunday
JOHNSON, Vt. (September 19, 2010) - Johnson State College men's soccer experienced a 0-0 double overtime decision on Sunday at Minaert Field to move to 1-2-2 overall, 0-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC). SUNY-Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) is now 3-1-1 overall.
Both squads were able to generate scoring chances throughout but the defenses and keepers prevailed on this day with the Mighty Oaks outshooting the Badgers 17-12 for the match. Johnson's Peter Wanjiku (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) was able to put three shots on goal while SUNY-ESF's Colin Hoffman (Lewisburg, Penn.) put four shots on net.
Johnson freshman keeper Ryan Belen (Northvale, N.J./Northern Valley Old Tappan) was aggressive and sharp throughout the match making seven saves but was matched by SUNY-ESF's Mike Schriver (Amherst, N.Y.) who stopped eight shots in his shutout effort.
The Badgers will play in one more non-conference match on Wednesday, September 22 at 4:00 pm at Southern Vermont College before opening up NAC action next Saturday at home versus Maine Maritime Academy at 1:00 pm. SUNY-ESF moves on to play at home against Onondaga Community College on Sunday, September 26.
