Farmington Forges 2-1 Win Over Johnson

Justin Clayton recorded his first career goal in the Badgers 2-1 loss at Farmington on Saturday

 

FARMINGTON, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington scored twice in the opening half to take a 2-1 win over Johnson State College in North Atlantic Conference men's soccer action today at Prescott Field.



The Badgers (2-6-3, 1-2-1) are slated to meet Thomas College at in Waterville at 2:15 pm on Sunday while the Beavers (6-4-3, 3-1) are tabbed to take on Lyndon State College at the same time.



Jake Constantine (Woodland, N.J.) scored off a Viktor Nilsson (Linkoping, Sweden) pass to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead 27:46 into the match. Farmington forged a 2-0 advantage just prior to intermission as Blake McElman (Woolwich, Maine) finished off a midfield cross by Zach Good (Westbrook, Maine) at 44:03.



Despite outshooting the visitors 14-6 in the second half, the Beavers' lead was knocked down by Justin Clayton (Brandon, Vt.) at 70:28. Clayton scored off a corner kick with Nick Ross (Barre, Vt.) earning the assist.



Ryan Belen (Northvale, N.J.) registered 10 saves for the Badgers, who were outshot 25-15 in the contest.  Tennessee Peters (Scarborough, Maine) and Derek Reilly (Hollis-Brookline, N.H.) split time in goal for Farmington. Peters stopped nine shots, while Reilly made two saves.
