Women's Soccer battle to a tie vs Morrisville

Johnson, VT

The Vermont State University Johnson Badgers Women's Soccer team travelled to Morrisville, NY on Saturday to kick off North Atlantic Conference play.  After a hard-fought battle, the Badgers ended the match tied 1-1.

On the new black field turf, the first half ended scoreless.  Both team has several chances, but the game really opened up in the second half.

Johnson had 16 shots in the second half but only one goal, coming on a penalty shot from Sophomore Midfielder Ida Eames.  Ida was fouled after receiving a cross into the box from Freshman Midfielder Olivia Davis.  This was Ida's first goal of the 2023 season after leading the team in points and goals in a 2022 season that led to her being selected Honorable mention all-conference. The goal was scored two minutes after Morrisville opened the scoring with a goal from sophomore transfer Callie Lafontaine.

The Badgers had numerous scoring opportunities to win it in the final 25 minutes but could not put the ball in the net

Sophomore Keeper Isabel Atkisson had 8 saves, including an athletic one-handed tip of the ball late in the 2nd half to preserve the lead.
