JOHNSON, Vt. - Several Johnson State College men's tennis student-athletes have been recognized by the league's coaches with all-North Atlantic Conference (NAC) honors.
Ryan Joy (North Montpelier, Vt./U-32) - NAC East First Team Singles; NAC East First Team Doubles
Ryan Joy had another standout season for Johnson State in 2011 winning both of his NAC playoff matches at #1 singles and #1 doubles. He finished 5-6 overall at #1 singles for the season and 8-3 overall at #1 doubles. Joy was a perfect 8-0 at #1 doubles when teaming with Chance Swafford.
Joy, a Biology major and a team captain for both Johnson men's tennis and men's soccer, was also a Academic All-Conference for the fall semester.
Joy was also named to the 2011 NAC East Division All-Tournament Team.
Chance Swafford (North Troy, Vt./North Country) - NAC co-Rookie of the Year; NAC First Team Doubles
Swafford, a Psychology major, had a strong first-season in collegiate tennis going 7-4 in singles play and 9-2 in doubles action on the year. Swafford team team with Ryan Joy to go a perfect 8-0 at #1 doubles for the 2011 campaign
Ben Algar (Old Lyme, Conn./Lyme-Old Lyme) - NAC First Team Doubles
James Dempsey (Lincoln, Vt./Mount Abraham) - NAC First Team Doubles
Ben Algar (left) found chemistry with teammate James Dempsey as they ran to a 5-1 record together at #3 doubles during the 2011 season.
Algar, a Creative Writing major, also went 6-5 in singles play during the spring and was 7-4 overall doubles play.
Dempsey, a Political Science major, went 1-1 in singles play for JSC while finishing with a 6-3 overall doubles record.
