Joy Caps Career With NAC Player of the Year

JOHNSON, Vt. - Senior Ryan Joy (North Montpelier, Vt./U-32) has been voted North Atlantic Conference (NAC) East Division Men's Tennis Player of the Year as well to the NAC East Singles and Doubles First Teams.  All league coaches vote to decide the honors announced on Tuesday.

Joy, a Biology major, posted a 3-2 mark at first singles and was a perfect 5-0 in first doubles in North Atlantic Conference East Division play.  Joy earned NAC East Division Singles and Doubles First Team honors in 2011 as well and was a NAC East Division Singles First Team member in 2010.  In his rookie year he was NAC Singles Honorable Mention.

Overall Joy was 9-8 at first singles which included five matches against top level talent in the early spring at Hilton Head, South Carolina.  Joy finished 9-3 against other New England region opponents.  He also teamed with sophomore Chance Swafford (Waterbury, Vt./North Country) to go 10-6 overall at first doubles on the season, 10-1 against New England opponents.

Joy helped lead the Badgers to a 10-8 overall record in 2012, 10-3 in New England, as the team advanced to the NAC East Division Finals for the second consecutive season.

In addition to the awards from the league, Joy was also named the recipient of the Johnson Athletics' Richard Anderson Award for athletic, academic, and community service achievement and was voted Male Student-Athlete of the Year by his peers, the Johnson State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
