Five Badgers Receive All-NAC East Honors

JOHNSON, Vt. - Five Johnson State men's tennis team member received North Atlantic Conference East Division honors on Tuesday in a vote conducted by the league's coaches.

NAC East Division Player of the Year - Ryan Joy (North Montpelier, Vt./U-32)

NAC East Division Coach of the Year - Laura Laramee

NAC East Divison Singles First Team - Ryan Joy & Chance Swafford (Waterbury, Vt./North Country) (pictured)

  • Swafford had a strong sophomore campaign going 10-8 overall, 10-3 against New England opponents, and 4-1 against NAC East foes.  Swafford, a Psychology major, played all season at second singles with the exception of one match where he played at first singles and won.  Swafford was also the 2011 NAC East Division Rookie of the Year.

NAC East Division Doubles First Team - Joy & Swafford

  • The talented tandem of Joy and Swafford were 10-6 overall on the season and a lights-out 10-2 against New England opponents on the season.  In five regular-season matches against NAC East opponents the duo was a perfect 5-0.  Joy and Swafford enjoyed a 10-match win streak during the season as well.

NAC East Division Doubles Second Team - Alen Turan (Essex, Vt./Essex) & Kyle Young (Randolph, Vt./Randolph)

  • Turan and Young, both Business Management majors, team to go 6-7 overall on the season and 2-0 in the NAC East play with all their matches played at second doubles.  Both four-year members of the Badgers tennis team, were 6-2 against New England region competition.
