The men's and women's track and field teams wrapped their season at the Ramapo College Last Chance Invitation in Mahwah, NJ, Friday evening. The evening was led by individual titles in the men's high jump and women's long jump, with marks of 2.10m and 4.93m by Eli Wilson and Forest Skillman, respectively, alongside numerous school records, personal bests, and dramatic races to the line.
Wilson's jump of 2.10m not only bettered his own school record, it saw him climb the Division III ranks to #4 as the May 15th nationals qualifying window quickly approaches. Top 20 declared athletes in the country in each event are invited to represent their program's at nationals, to be held this year in Geneva, Ohio.
Wilson's school record was matched by the women's 4x400m team of Kali Wooster, Ida Eames, Maddie Power, and Peyton Fairchild, who broke the standing record by almost three seconds with a time of 4:43.80. Wooster opened the relay with an official split of 1:01.37, which would break the 400m open record by over two seconds, firmly planting the third year sprinter in a new category of runners. Before the relay and after a longstanding delay in the cold rain, Wooster had run a 28.65 in the 200m, just 02 seconds off a personal best and .15 seconds from the school record.
Before the 4x400 relay, Fairchild had set two personal bests in the 200m (30.64) and 400m (1:09.78) and Eames had cracked the 2:40 mark in the 800 with a time 2:38.54. Eames took control of her heat, clearing the field as the bell lap rang to take 7th overall in the event. Power nearly matched her PB in the 1500m after opening with a hot 1:22 and maintaining record pace through 1000m, finishing with a 5:53.99.
On the men's side, Sabree Glover closed his season under the lights with a 23.48 in the 200m and 52.95 in the 400m. After joining Glover in the 400m, first year Io Binder ran a thrilling 1500m that saw him overtake second place in his heat, closing a five second gap with one lap to go, in a personal best time of 4:49.99.
The twilight last chance meet was a representation of a successful, record-filled, groundbreaking season for the track and field teams.
