Badgers Earn DH Sweep Over GMC

JOHNSON, Vt. (April 19, 2011) -  

Johnson State College earned a doubleheader sweep over visiting Green Mountain College on Tuesday, both in shortened five inning affairs, as the Badgers defeated the Eagles 12-4 in game one and 11-2 in game two.  Johnson moves to 3-17 overall, 2-8 in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) while Green Mountain drops to 3-15, 0-10 NAC. 

In game one the Badger bats exploded in the second inning for eight consecutive base hits en route to an eight-run frame as JSC cruised to a 12-4 win.

Senior Emily Sullivan (Hollis, Maine/Bonny Eagle) went 3-for-3 with three runs scored while junior Morgan Rogerson (Hardwick, Vt./Hazen) also went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles all while driving in four runs and scoring three times to lead the Johnson offensive attack.

GMC's Chanleigh Casey (Hartford, N.Y.) had a pair of singles in her two at bats and Jessica Johnson (Washington, Mich.) scored twice, drove in a run, and walked in solid offensive outings.

Sophomore pitcher Meagan Russ (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) allowed three earned runs over five innings and struck out a pair to earn the victory for Johnson while Cass Neimeth-Lazar (Red Hook, N.Y.) allowed 15 hits and 12 earned in four innings in the losing effort for Green Mountain. 

In the nightcap Johnson posted seven first inning runs to surge to the early lead and roll to an 11-2 victory over the Eagles.

Freshman centerfielder Amber McCullock (Morrisville, Vt./Peoples) went 3-for-4 while scoring a pair of runs and classmate Erica Pustari (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) went 2-for-2 with two RBI to spark the Badgers at the plate.

Russ and Mackey shared the duties in the circle with Russ scattering four hits in three innings and Mackey allowing two in two innings as Russ tallied her second win of the day.

Green Mountain saw Karen Davidson (Seymour, Conn.) drive in both runs and Kristen Belessis (Augusta, N.J.) go 2-for-3 with a run.

Neimeth-Lazar was again tagged with the loss allowing 11 earned runs over four innings.

 

Johnson will travel east tomorrow for a 3:30 pm start with another NAC foe in Lyndon State College while Green Mountain play at Castleton State College in their next contest, also tomorrow at 3:30 pm.
