Badgers Stiffled By Daniel Webster

Junior Andrea Deuell scored a team-high 12 points in the Badgers season-opening loss at Daniel Webster on Monday

 

Nashua, NH â€" A junior Connecticut connection propelled the Daniel Webster College women's basketball team to an overwhelming season opening victory Monday night as the Eagles downed Johnson State College, 83-33 at the Mario Vagge Gymnasium.

 

Alycia Gervais (Windham, Conn.) led the Eagles (1-0) with game highs of 17 points, 11 rebounds and six assists while Vanessa Bosques (N. Windham, Conn.) notched 17 points including three three-pointers. Sarah Paternostro (Glastonbury, Conn.) added 11 points and a game-high five assists in her Eagle debut.

 

Senior Alyssa Regan (Salem, N.H.) notched 16 points and eight rebounds as DWC won its third straight season opener including their second straight opener over the Badgers.

 

The Eagles trailed only once early on (5-4) and overwhelmed the Badgers (0-1) on the boards, 58-28 including a devastating 22-2 on the offensive glass.

 

Andrea Duell (Milton, Vt.) notched 12 points to lead the Badgers while Jen Ferrari (Westfield, Mass.) added 11 points.

 

The Eagles defense held Johnson State to 10 field goals on the night and helped cause 32 turnovers behind 18 team steals. DWC was also sharp at the line, knocking down 20-of-23 from the charity stripe.

 

DWC took control shooting 47-percent in the opening frame and held the Badgers to just 12 first half points in taking a 43-12 lead to the break.

 

Johnson State visits Elms College on Friday at 6:00 p.m. in the first round of the Blazers Invitational.  The Eagles get back to action on Wednesday night when they host Regis College in a regional matchup of future conference rivals beginning at 7:00 p.m.
