Pilgrims Run Past Johnson 73-57
Freshman Amber McCullock scored a career-high 12 points in the Badgers 73-57 defeat at home on Wednesday to New England College
JOHNSON, Vt. (January 5, 2011) â€" Visiting New England College used a 13-0 run to open the game to create a comfortable margin they would work with throughout as the Pilgrims defeated Johnson State College 73-57 in non-conference women's basketball on Wednesday in Carter Gym. The win pushes NEC to 7-5 overall, 0-0 The Commonwealth Coast Conference while Johnson falls to 4-5 overall, 0-0 North Atlantic Conference.
A 6-28 shooting performance in the first half doomed the Badgers on this night. Though they would rebound for a 44% shooting half in the second half and get as close as 12 points at 31-19 as the Pilgrims cruised to the win.
Junior Rachel Williams (Chapel Hill, N.C./UNCA) was a force throughout the game tallying game-high's of 31 points and14 rebounds. Williams shot 11-17 from the field and added a pair of blocks and steals to her line on the night. Freshmen Jenna Ledy (Pickford, Mich./Pickford) and Katarina Muska (Brimfield, Mass./Tatasqua) eached scored nine points to support the Pilgrim offense.
The Badgers were led by junior Andrea Deuell (Milton, Vt./Milton) and her 16 points while sophomore Jen Ferrari (Westfield, Mass./Westfield) notched a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman Amber McCullock (Morrisville, Vt./Peoples) chipped in with 12 points and seven boards.
Johnson State will host SUNY-Canton on Friday at 5:00 pm in their next contest while New England College will open TCCC play with a game at the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
