Farmington Fends Off Badgers 72-58

JOHNSON, Vt. (January 21, 2011) -  The University of Maine-Farmington Beavers overcame a four-point halftime by outscoring host Johnson State College 45-27 in the second half and earn a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's basketball victory on Friday night by the final score of 72-58.  Farmington moves to 6-7 overall and 3-1 in the NAC while Johnson drops to 4-9 overall, 0-3 NAC.

 

After a Jen Ferrari (Westfield, Mass.) bucket game Johnson their largest lead of the night at 33-27 UMF would respond with a 14-5 spurt that game the Beavers a 44-39 lead with 14:34 left to play and also a lead they would not relinquish.

 

Kristine Tatro's (Eden, Vt.) basket with 11:25 left cut the Beaver lead to two at 49-47 but Farmington would answer with a 23-5 blitz and put the game out of reach.

 

Senior Ashley Busque (Belgrade, Maine) tossed in 10 second half points and tallied 13 points for the game while classmate Jillian Ross (Belfast, Maine) scored a team-high 17 points to key the road victory for Farmington despite Johnson outrebounding UMF 43-31. Kenni Norton (Strong, Maine) chipped in with 14 points and Paige Saunders (Surry, Maine) added 11.

 

JSC was paced by sophomore Jen Ferrari (Westfield, Mass.) and her game-high's of 18 points and 12 rebounds.  Lauren Lepage (Rumford, Maine) contributed 12 points for the Badgers who endured a 21 turnover night.

 

Johnson be back on the floor again on tomorrow at 2:00 pm when they play host to the Terriers of Thomas College while Farmington will travel east to face-off against Lyndon State College also tomorrow at 2:00 pm.
