Spartans Blast Badgers 89-38

JOHNSON, Vt. (February 15, 2011) -  Visiting Castleton State College rolled over Johnson State College on Tuesday night in North Atlantic Conference women's basketball play behind 53% shooting and a defense that forced 29 turnovers on the evening.  Castleton improves to 16-8 overall, 10-3 NAC while Johnson slips to 4-20 overall, 0-13 NAC.

Spartans junior Vanessa Powers (Marshfield, Vt./Twinfield) scored 14 of her game-high 17 points in the first half at Castleton rolled to a 52-24 halftime lead.  Powers would add 10 rebounds to her line as well.  Four other Spartans would reach double-figures with senior Kristie Dunchus (West Rutland, Vt./West Rutland) scoring 16 points and Tarryn Bolognani (Whitingham, Vt./Twin Valley), Stephanie Bull (Milton, Vt./Milton), and Taylor Race (Germantown, N.Y./Germantown) each chipping in with 10 points apiece.

Johnson's Jen Ferrari (Westfield, Mass./Westfield) made 13 of 15 free throw attempts en route to 15 points to lead Johnson while adding eight rebounds. 

Johnson State will wrap their season on Saturday when they host Green Mountain College at 4:00 pm.  Prior to the game the Badgers will recognize a pair of senior student-athletes playing in their last collegiate basketball game in Beth Lilligreen (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) and Kristine Tatro (Eden, Vt./Lamoille Union).  Castleton will complete their regular-season schedule also on Saturday when they play at Lyndon State College also at 4:00 pm.
