JOHNSON, Vt. (February 19, 2011) - The Johnson State College women's basketball team saw their season come to an end on Saturday afternoon with a 65-53 loss to visiting Green Mountain College. The Badgers wrap up their season 4-21, 0-14 NAC and currently on an 18-game losing streak. Green Mountain, also playing in their last game of the season, finish 4-20, 2-12 NAC. The Eagles finish seventh in the NAC standings and Johnson eighth therefore neither will qualify for the post-season tournament.
Johnson sophomore Jen Ferrari (Westfield, Mass./Westfield) made a jump shot with 7:06 remaining in the first half to give the Badgers a 22-21 lead but unfortunately for JSC this would be their last lead of the day. Green Mountain would close the half on a 15-6 surge and take a 36-28 lead into halftime.
GMC would push the lead to 15 points on the two occasions early in the second half and after Molly Hopper (Gouverneur, N.Y./Gouverneur) lay-up made the 11:48 left to play in the game.
The Badgers would make a push and cut the lead to five at 52-47 as senior Kristine Tatro (Eden, Vt./Lamoille) drilled an 17-footer from the left wing but that would be as close as JSC would get.
A pair of Victoria Mullins (Neptune, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) capped a 13-3 run to give GMC the 15-point cushion again with 2:03 to play and all but seal the game.
Johnson was led by junior Andrea Deuell (Milton, Vt./Milton) who scored 18 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and collected six steals while Ferrari recorded her 10th double-double of the season with a 16-point, 10-rebound night while also picking up five steals. Tatro ended her collegiate career with a nine-point, six-rebound effort.
