Norwich capitalized on a dominant second quarter to defeat Vermont State Johnson 71-56 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.
SUMMARY
Johnson started strong, hitting four three-pointers in the opening frame to take a 15-15 tie into the second quarter. Kristie Zator and Abbie Hernandez sparked the early offense, while Jaylah Jones controlled the glass and distributed effectively.
The second quarter proved decisive as Norwich outscored Johnson 27-12, fueled by fast-break points and second-chance opportunities. Despite Zator's sharp shooting and Jones' constant presence, Norwich built a 42-27 halftime lead.
Johnson battled back in the third with a 6-0 run capped by a Devero three-pointer and Jones' layup, trimming the deficit to 11. However, Norwich responded with balanced scoring to maintain control. In the fourth, Johnson continued to fight—Zator hit her sixth three-pointer and Jones added two late layups—but Norwich's depth and transition game secured the 71-56 win.
