Vermont State Johnson earned a strong victory at MCAL Tuesday night, outscoring the Trailblazers 44-39 victory at the Amsler Campus Center Gymnasium.

SUMMARY

Johnson controlled the first half, jumping out to an 8-5 lead after the opening quarter. The Badgers extended their advantage in the second frame highlighted by a three-pointer from Kamryn Devero, a layup by Faith Meade, closing with a Jaylah Jones layup to build a 22-13 halftime lead.

MCLA worked back in the third quarter with an 8-0 run to cut the margin to one, but Johnson answered with clutch shooting - Abbie Hernandez buried a three at 4:08 and Emily Ward added another at 1:31 to push the lead to 32-24 heading into the fourth.

In the fourth, Johnson built a 38-29 lead following a Devero triple and an Oberg layup, but MCLA responded with back-to-back threes to make it 40-35. With under a minute left, Kristie Zator scored on a layup off a Devero assist to make it 42-36, and Hernandez sealed the win with two free throws at 0:05. A last-second three by MCLA set the final score at 44-39.
