Vermont State Johnson's strength was on display in fourth, but the Badgers fell 72-31 to SUNY Cobleskill Saturday afternoon at Iorio Gymnasium.
SUMMARY
Johnson struck first, taking an early 2-0 lead on a Faith Benjamin layup, but a surge that saw Cobleskill hit back-to-back threes helped the Fighting Tigers close the first quarter up 18-4. The Tigers extended their advantage in the second frame while Johnson battled on the boards, getting buckets from Faith Meade and Jacquelyn Oberg to make it 37-9 at halftime.
The Badgers found their rhythm in the third quarter, with Abbie Hernandez and Jaylah Jones hitting jumpers and Kristie Zator controlling the glass, but Cobleskill maintained control and pushed the lead to 52-13 entering the fourth.
In the final frame, Johnson delivered its strongest stretch of the night, pacing Cobleskill at 18-20. Hernandez converted a three-point play, Jones added a layup and free throw, and Zator provided a highlight moment with an offensive rebound turned and-one layup.
