The Badgers took an early lead but fell 72-40 to New England College on Thursday night at Carter Gym.
SUMMARY
Johnson struck first when Kamryn Devero drilled a three-pointer off an assist from Abbie Hernandez just 15 seconds in, on Thursday night. Hernandez added a layup moments later to make it 5-2, but New England College answered with an 11-0 run fueled by. Despite buckets from Faith Meade and Emily Ward, NEC led 25-13 after the opening quarter.
The second saw NEC widen the margin, pushing the lead to 45-19 at halftime. Johnson battled in the third, with Kristie Zator scoring inside and later knocking down a three, while Isabel Akisson added a steal and three-point play. NEC responded to keep the quarter even at 14-14 in the third, 59-33 total.
In the final frame, Johnson pressed defensively, with Hernandez recording two blocks and Meade and Jones adding steals, while chipping away offensively. Jaylah Jones hit a jumper, Jacquelyn Oberg scored inside, and Meade added a late layup to bring Johnson to 39 points. Zator's free throw capped the Badgers' scoring at 40. NEC closed to secure the 72-40 final.
