JSC Win Streak Haulted at Five

Badgers Win Streak Haulted at 5, Fall 2-0 to HU

Goalkeeper Amber McCullock played well and made 12 stops on Sunday but could not lift JSC to their sixth straight win on this day as Johnson fell 2-0 to visiting Husson University

JOHNSON, Vt. (September 26, 2010) - Johnson State women's soccer saw their win streak end at five on Sunday by falling 2-0 to visiting Husson University at Minaert Field in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play.  The Eagles used a strong second half effort to turn a scoreless tie into a road conference win.  Johnson State falls to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in the NAC while Husson jumps to 6-4, 2-0 in the NAC.

After a scoreless and back and forth first 45 minutes that saw flurries of scoring opportunities for each side, the Eagles took control in the second half outshooting Johnson 13-1 and holding a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.  Husson had several good chances early including a miss penalty kick opportunity but broke through at 68:06 when Rebecca Jones (Newmarket, Maine) drilled home a shot just under the crossbar with Amanda Gifford (Lee, Maine) picking up the assist.

Husson would lock things up with 5:01 left to play in the match when Megan Lajoie (Van Buren, Maine) took a nifty one-touch pass from Megan Clement (Brunswick, Maine) and deposited it in the goal past a frozen Johnson keeper in Amber McCullock (Morrisville, Vt./Peoples).

Rozlyn Peterson (Newport, Maine) made five saves on the afternoon to earn the shutout victory for Husson while McCullock made several outstanding stops throughout the contest and 12 saves total.

The Badgers will go on the road for a non-conference match on Thursday at Southern Vermont College at 4:00 pm while Husson will host Bates College on Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
