Johnson Wraps Up Regular-Season with 1-0 Win

Freshman Kyleigh Joseph scored the game's only goal in the Badgers 1-0 win over Green Mountain College on Saturday

JOHNSON, Vt. (October 23, 2010) - Johnson State College women's soccer not only won a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) match 1-0 over Green Mountain College but also earned the right to host a NAC Quarterfinal on Wednesday at 2:00 pm which will be rematch with the Eagles.  The Badgers improved to 8-6 overall, 3-4 NAC and will be the #4 seed in the post-season tournament while Green Mountain College drop to 4-9-2, 2-4-1 NAC and will be the #5 seed.

The match was scoreless through the half with Johnson holding a slim 8-6 shot advantage though Green Mountain took two corner kicks to the Badgers one.  JSC controlled possession for most of the first stanza though the Eagles created better scoring opportunities over the first 45 minutes.

JSC would break through 4:04 into the second half when freshman Kyleigh Joseph (Hancock, N.H./Hancock) won a ball just outside the 18' on the left side and lofted a shot over the head of GMC keeper Karen Davidson (Seymour, Conn./Seymour) for the 1-0 Johnson lead.

The Badgers would keep for control much of the second half outshooting Green Mountain 9-4 in the second half overall and holding a 5-1 corner kick edge.  JSC would hold on for the win and, with other results from around the NAC, gave Johnson the opportunity to host the quarterfinal rematch on Wednesday.

Amber McCullock (Morrisville, Vt./Peoples Academy) earned the win for Johnson by making seven saves while her counterpart Davidson recorded eight stops.
