Women's Soccer Wins 4th Straight, 2-1 Over ESF

Senior Emily Hassard notched the first goal of the match as the Badgers won their 4th straight, a 2-1 decision over SUNY-ESF

JOHNSON, Vt. (September 19, 2010) - Johnson State women's soccer made it four wins in a row by outdueling visiting non-conference opponent SUNY-Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) 2-1 at Minaert Field on Sunday.  The Badgers move to 4-2 overall, 0-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) while the Mighty Oaks fall to 1-2-1 overall.

Johnson would get on the board first in the 13th minute when senior Emily Hassard (Montpelier, Vt./Spaulding) collected a rebound from an Ally Bataille (Waterbury, Vt./Harwood) shot of the post and drilled it to the upper right corner to make the score 1-0 Johnson.

There the score would stay through halftime until the 56th minute when Bataille took a long, bouncing crossing pass from Kyleigh Joseph (Hancock, N.H./Hancock) and redirected the pass back to the strong-side post to beat SUNY-ESF keeper Olivia Gagliardi (Hawthorne, N.J.) for a two-goal Badger lead.

The Mighty Oaks would keep battling and would break through with their first score of the match at 79:58 when Wendy Getman (Carthage, N.Y.) made a long run up the center of the field, got behind the JSC defense, and beat Johnson keeper Amber McCullock (Morrisville, Vt./Peoples Academy) below her outstretched right hand to create the eventual final score of 2-1.

McCullock would record four stops on the day to earn the win for Johnson while Gagliardi stopped five shots in the losing effort.

Johnson will open up with NAC action in their next match at home on Saturday, September 25 when they play Maine Maritime Academy at 3:00 pm.  SUNY-ESF will compete at Onondaga Community College on Sunday, September 26 at 3:00 pm.
