McCullock NCAA DIII Leader in Save Percentage

JOHNSON, Vt. – Johnson State College sophomore goalkeeper Amber McCullock (Morrisville, Vt./Peoples Academy) is the 2011 NCAA statistical champion in save percentage, finishing her season with a percentage of .918.  That mark topped the second-place finisher Stephanie Vega of New Paltz St. (N.Y.) who finished her season with a .914 save percentage.  McCullock made 89 saves and allowed just eight goals while playing in 13 games for the Badgers who finished with an 8-5-3 overall record.

McCullock's stellar season included a four-game stretch to end the season where she recorded two shutouts, three double-digit save efforts, and a high of 18 saves on the road against eventual North Atlantic Conference (NAC) champion Castleton State College to keep JSC close in a 1-0 loss.  McCullock made 12 saves through regulation and two overtimes in the Badgers playoff matchup at Colby-Sawyer College forcing penalty kicks that enabled the Chargers to advance 5-4.

McCullock, an Anthropology/Sociology major and also a member of the JSC women's basketball and softball teams, stated "I would not have been able to accomplish this without my teammates; the people in front of me.  I was a bit surprised by (the honor) but also very happy.  It is a nice accomplishment."

Johnson Head Coach Ray Campanile added, "I am so proud of Amber and our program as this is a great reflection on both.  I give her so much credit as she is not only a pillar of our program but also a three-sport athlete at JSC.  Amber's mental acuity, her emotional and physical toughness, and her ability to stay strong for the duration are just a few things that are so impressive about her."

The Badgers fell in the NAC quarterfinal round in penalty kicks in 2011 while in McCullock's rookie season in 2010 the Badgers advanced to the semifinal round.  JSC's record the past two seasons with McCullock on the roster is 17-12-3.
