The Badgers Women's Soccer team battled to a 1–1 draw at home against Lesley University in Saturday's conference matchup.
SUMMARY
Vermont State Johnson earned a hard fought 1-1 draw against Lesley University, with both teams scoring in opposite halves and showcasing strong defensive efforts. First year Sadie Baranyay netted her second goal of the season for the Badgers, assisted by Elizabeth Love, while goalkeepers Isabel Atkisson and Sophia Johnson combined for 15 saves to keep Lesley at bay.
The Badgers struck first in the 39th minute, when Love found Baranyay in the box for a commanding finish to give Johnson a 1-0 lead. Atkisson was stellar in the first half, recording 7 saves to preserve the advantage heading into halftime.
Though Lesley responded quickly after the break, scoring in the 47th minute to level the game, the Badger defense held firm, with Johnson making eight second half saves and the team blocking several close-range attempts.
Late chances from Lesley were turned away, including back-to-back saves by Johnson in the 85th and 87th minutes, securing a draw for the Badgers.
