JOHNSON, Vt. - Johnson State College first-year women's tennis student-athlete Deanna Brandstetter (Newport, Vt./North Country) has been named North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Rookie of the Week.

Brandstetter won at both second singles (7-6 (7-5), 6-3) and at second doubles (8-5) to key a 7-2 NAC victory at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) on Saturday.  Brandstetter teamed with junior Maegan Ploof (St. Albans, Vt./BFA-St. Albans) for the doubles victory giving them a 2-1 record on the season.

Brandstetter, a Psychology/Art major, is one of five newcomers teaming with five returners that has the program optimistic for an upswing.  The win on Saturday snapped a 22-match streak without a win and after a pair of tough losses, 5-4 vs. UMass-Boston and 6-3 at Sage, to open the season.

The Badgers and Brandstetter will face NAC foe Colby-Sawyer College at 3:30 pm on Wednesday, September 12 in their next outing.
