The Badgers Women's Volleyball team fell 3-0 to Vermont State Castleton in Thursday's road matchup.
SUMMARY
Vermont State Johnson dropped a three-set decision to Castleton, with resiliency displayed throughout the match duration. Max Ludlow led the Badgers with 12 points, while first-year Tatum Kalahiki added seven on an efficient .500 hitting percentage, and Alana Lewis leading defensively with 14 digs.
The match opened strong for Johnson, as Ludlow and Sepphyre Lepega-Telona helped the Badgers jump out to a 2-0 lead that continued into a 5-2 three-point differential. Johnson and Castleton traded points early, reaching a 7-7 tie before the Spartans surged ahead. Despite late kills from Haylee Hansen and Tatum Kalahiki, Castleton closed the set 25-16.
While set two saw Castleton open with a 3-0 run, an early timeout from Johnson helped the Badgers shrink the deficit to two at 9-7. Though the Badgers were able to put forth a late push, including an ace from Hansen and a kill from Ludlow, this wasn't enough to close the gap and Castleton took the second set 25-15.
With Johnson trailing 7-2 in the third, the Badgers rallied behind kills from Kalahiki and Hansen. Ludlow delivered three consecutive points, two of which were aces, to bring the Badgers within five at 16-21. Lepega-Telona added a late kill, but Castleton closed the match with a block and a final kill to seal the 25-17 set and complete the sweep.
