JOHNSON, Vt. - The 2011 Johnson State College women's cross country program will look to first-year head coach Camille Campanile to lead eight runners, including six newcomers, into some of the top races in the New England region this fall in preparation for the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championships in late October.
Back from the 2010 team is senior Alycia Brodeur (Colchester, Conn./Bacon Academy) while classmate Jasmine Yuris (Moodus, Conn./Nathan Hale-Ray) returns for her last season of running last participating in 2009. Brodeur competed in five races in 2010 while Yuris ran in six races in 2009 including three top 10 finishes to give JSC leadership and experience.
The 2010 squad ran to sixth place team finish in last year's NAC Championships and graduated their top three runners from that race.
Campanile, and new assistant coaches Robyn Anderson and Ryan Kerrigan, will look to a group of talented to newcomers to provide depth for races and competiveness in daily training sessions.
"We have a wonderful group that is excited and inspired to struggle, strive, and achieve," said Coach Campanile. "They are ready, taking care of every detail, and excited to represent Johnson State College, as am I."
The Badgers opened their schedule with a two-mile race at the NEC 2011 Mayflower Kickoff on September 2nd and came in fifth place as a team. The JSC schedule will feature races at the University of New England, Lyndon State College, Elms College, Saint Michael's College, and Green Mountain College. The team will return to Lyndon for the NAC Championships on October 30th and then wrap up their fall schedule with the NCAA Division III Regional Championships held this year at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine.
