HENNIKER, N.H. - The Johnson State College women's cross country team ran to an eighth place team finish at the 2012 North Atlantic Conference Cross Country Championship hosted by New England College on Saturday. JSC sophomore Jill Porter (Springvale, Maine) earned NAC 2nd Team Honors by coming in 15th place overall in a time of 21:34.
Husson University won the team championship by posting a team-low score of 38 edging runner-up Colby-Sawyer College's 48. The University of Maine-Farmington came in third (102), Castleton State College was fourth (111), and Green Mountain College was fifth (131). Johnson had a team score of 206 in their eighth place finish.
Husson's Alecia Palmer (Presque Isle, Maine) won the championship with a time of 19:32 which also earned her the 2012 NAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year Award. New England College freshman Rachel Orlando (Westerly, R.I.) came in second place at 19:45 which made her the 2012 NAC Rookie of the Year. Colby-Sawyer sophomore's Brianne Dunn (Ellsworth, Maine) and Emily Urquhart (White River Jct., Vt.) were third and fourth respectively in a times of 20:05 and 20:06 and Husson junior Molly Frankinburger (Lebanon, Conn.) rounded out the top five crossing the finish line at 20:34.
Following Porter for Johnson was freshman Bria Wolters (Barre, Vt.) coming in 45th place in 23:43. Junior Jackie Caron (Grand Isle, Vt.) was 58th in 25:06, sophomore Shelby DavisLane (Dummerston, Vt.) came in 61st (25:12), freshman Amanda Bortlein (Ludlow, Vt.) finished in 68th (26:28), junior Anna Allen (Shelburne, Vt.) was 74th in 28:46, and freshman Dallas Deblois (Enosburg Falls, Vt.) came in 75th (28:50).
